How To Write Your CV Right

It can be hard to know how to start when it comes to writing a CV. Here at Company Fusion, we look at hundreds of CVs every day so we have a good idea of what makes a good CV. Here is our advice when it comes to writing yours.




Personal Infomation

This should be the first thing on your CV, you need to include your full name, email address and phone numbers, you can also include your address and date of birth if you choose. This is the most important thing on your CV if there is no contact information on your CV it's practically useless, make sure your information is clear at the top of the document.

Personal Statment

On your CV you should include a personal statement, this is a paragraph where you can show yourself in the best light, remember this is not a cover letter so keep it short. This is where you can explain what qualities you can offer and what it is that you are looking for. You should tailor this to the company and job you are applying for.

Top Tip - A lot of the skills and attributes they will want to see will be in the job description.

Work Experience 

This should come third on your CV a list of the roles you have had in descending order with your most recent. You should give the job title, the start and end date of your roles and a description of your responsibility's and skills within the role. This is where an employer is looking to see if you have the right experience, seniority, or knowledge for the position. 

Qualifications 

List your qualifications and the year in which they were obtained, most recent in descending order. Depending on the length of your education it may not be relevant to include all of your education history. You can also include any significant awards or achievements here.

Skills

This is where you can talk about the foreign languages you speak, and the IT packages you can competently use. You should not just have a list of run of the mill terms like 'team player' or 'self-motivated' these don't have any meaning unless you can provide an example where these traits are proven.

Interested 

This is a section you can include if you have interests you feel may be useful for the employer to know. For example, you write your own blog and you are looking for a job in publishing or journalism, or you are looking for a job in event management and you have helped coordinate charity events. If you have interests that paint you in an even better light for the profession then include them in your CV.
